PDP vs APCThe members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Nasarawa State have staged a protest against the government of the state, demanding for an end to attacks of its members in the State House of Assembly and others across the state.

The protesters, led by the Information Minister, Mr Labaran Maku, claim that the lives of the 20 PDP lawmakers pushing for the impeachment of the governor of the state, Tanko Al-makura, have been under threat.

Members of the the PDP matched from the party’s secretariat along Jos road through Government House on Shendam road and ended at the State Assembly complex.

Also, among the protesters in their thousands is the chairman of the party, Yunana Iliya and other top party leaders like former governor Akwe Doma and his deputy.

From Jos road all the way through Government House gate located on Shendam road to the State Assembly complex, the PDP supporters say the lawmakers must be allowed to do their job.

Mr Labaran, who address the crowd of supporters at the Assembly complex said the All Progressives Congress (APC) government is to blame in the impeachment crisis with attacks on his party men.

The party chairman, in company of Senator Solomon Ewuga, said they were at the Assembly to submit a solidarity later in support of the lawmakers and urged the APC to allow the lawmakers perform their constitutional mandate.

There is growing concern among residents of Nasarawa State, as both the PDP and APC have been dragged into the Legislative and Executive feud. The situation requires immediate containment before the state experiences a full blown crisis, analysts have said.

Twenty lawmakers of the PDP in the state House of Assembly had started the impeachment process of Governor Al-makura, but a panel set up to investigate allegations of financial misappropriation dismissed the 16-count charge against Al-makura.

After the Chief Judge of the State had set up the probe panel, the PDP lawmakers requested that the panel should be disbanded, saying it has no confidence in the panel.
