Eleection-in-NigeriaThe Nigerian Senate has assured indigenes of Osun State that adequate security arrangements are on ground to ensure a free, fair and violent free governorship election on Saturday.

The Chairman of the Senate Committee on Police Affairs, Senator Paulinus Igwe-Nwagwu, gave the assurance on Friday while addressing reporters on the preparedness of security personnel for the election that has triggered so much tension in the state.

“Osun election must be well managed by all involved, as it is the last test case that will determine what happens in the forthcoming general elections of 2015,” Senator Igwe-Nwagwu said.

He urged the different political parties vying for the position of the State Governor to desist from crying foul even before the elections.

The Senator stressed that such situation could heat up the polity unnecessarily, emphasising that the police would arrest any defaulter irrespective of the person’s political party.

Ahead of the election, there have been huge deployment of security officials in the state to ensure that the election would be violent free.

The incumbent governor and his political party, the All Progressives Congress, had condemned the deployment of security officials, saying it would create an artificial and uneasy situation  that may affect the electorates.

There was a similar situation in the Ekiti State Governorship election held few months ago, but the election was declared free and fair by observers.
