Apga Victor UmehThe National Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, Victor Umeh, has described the defection of Uche Ekwunife from the party into PDP as an unfortunate incident but one that would not affect the party.

Speaking on Politics Today on Channels Television, he said that it was not an unprecedented occurrence as it becomes difficult to keep politicians in a party when they seem to believe their interests are not being protected.

He noted that Ekwunife and “her co-travellers” were leaving the party because of their sins, as he believed that they may have lost the confidence of their constituency.

Earlier in August 2014, member representing Anaocha/Njikoka/Dunukofia Federal Constituency of Anambra State in Federal House of Representatives, Uche Ekwunife, had dumped the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, for the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, along with four out of the five APGA House of Representatives members.

On moving forward, Umeh noted that the defection would have no effect on the party as contrary to general belief that there had been a large exit of key members in the state, only a small number of persons left the party with Ekwunife.

“We are going to win again, we are not lacking candidates that can win,” he said, also noting that Ekwunife had already started to loose her relevance in the party and could not have been able to earn support in future endeavours.

On the secret behind his confidence, he boasted that “APGA has been in control of Anambra State for over 8 years” and the Governor of the state was doing very well with all the Local Government Chairmen and Councillors all on the platform of the party.

“APGA has been received by the people of Anambra State and the Government has done very well.”

“We are in firm control of the structures in Anambra State,” he concluded.

On the just concluded National Conference, Umeh also affirmed that there was no place in the drafts that stipulated that a President would be allowed to run for a third term in office as against the current 2-term recommendation of the law.
