nddcThe Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, has facilitated the setting up of small-scale businesses for unemployed youths.

The commission last weekend formally opened an industrial catering outfit, which is one of the new business enterprises it is sponsoring, at Rumuola in Port Harcourt for one of the female repentant agitators in the region.

Speaking at the ceremony, the NDDC Managing Director, Dan Bassey Abia, said that the governing board of the commission was not leaving any stone unturned in the effort to change the lives and fortunes of women and youths in the Niger Delta.

He advised the youths to remain focused on positive activities and direct their energies to productive ventures rather than militancy. He stated that besides physical infrastructure, the NDDC was also making significant difference in the lives of Niger Deltans through various human capacity development programmes.

He appealed to all the women and youths who had benefited from the NDDC empowerment programmes to ensure that their businesses were successful so as to encourage others to follow their foot-steps, noting that youths were very critical to the socio-economic and political development of any country.

He assured Niger delta citizens of the commission’s continued youth-oriented programmes that would equip the youths and make them self-reliant.

The Rumuola Youth President, Comrade Ebere Henry, together with the owner of the property and landlord of Ms Cyril Hart, expressed delight at what he described as the practical way the NDDC had intervened in the lives of the youths. He lauded the Federal Government’s efforts at alleviating poverty and urged the beneficiaries to make the maximum use of the opportunity.
