LotteryThe Director General and Chief Executive Officer of National Lottery Regulatory Commission (NLRC), Mr Adolphus Ekpe, says the lottery industry in Nigeria needs to be automated with the commission driving the process.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Business Morning, he explained the structure of the industry and how it could be used as a tool for marketing and job creation.

He revealed that Nigeria could earn up to 250billion naira annually from the lottery industry if it is properly automated.

He added that the lottery industry is one of the industries that can create private sector employment for the country.

According to Ekpe, lotteries in Nigeria have been categorized into two; lottery license and lottery permit.

The lottery license is the traditional lottery which involves numbers while the permit it mostly titled as product and services.

Ekpe stated that every lottery programme that has no permit is illegal.

According to him, the commission has linked up with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, (EFCC), to work together and fish out those that are operating illegally.

He, however, added that Nigerians need to equally report to the commission when they are not treated fairly.
