Mohammed Adoke, Minister of Justice.The Minister of Justice and Attorney-General of Nigeria, Mr Mohammed Adoke, has called on the Chief Judge of Adamawa State to immediately swear-in Mr Bala Ngilari as the governor of Adamawa State as ordered by the Federal High Court.

The court had ruled on Wednesday that the former Adamawa State Deputy Governor, Mr Ngilari, did not resign his position before the former governor Murtala Nyako was impeached, sticking-out the purported resignation of the former deputy governor.

The court also declared that the swearing-in of Acting Governor, Umaru Fintiri, was illegal and unconstitutional and ordered the immediate vacation of the Government House by the Acting Governor

Addressing reporters on Wednesday Mr Adoke stressed that it was important to obey the judgement of the court in other to avert a vacuum in governance and possible constitutional crisis.

He also called on the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC) to obey the judgement of the court by suspending all the arrangements made for the conduct of a by-election scheduled to take place in Adamawa State on Saturday October 11.

After the judgement was delivered, the INEC called-off the stakeholders meeting scheduled to hold on Wednesday in the state ahead of the planned by-election.

The INEC chairman, Attahiru Jega, was supposed to meet with the seven governorship contestants and the Inspector General of Police, Suleiman Abba .
