The People’s Democratic Party, PDP, in the South West has elected new officers to coordinate the affairs of the party in the zone henceforth.
The new executives are to be led by the National Vice Chairman, South West, Makanju Ogundipe from Ondo State.
Rising from its zonal congress which ended on Saturday night, the leaders of the party from all the six south western states and delegates present unanimously voted for the new 10-man executives, six zonal ex-officio members and six national ex-officio members.
The voting process which was conducted by national executive members of the PDP was also witnessed by INEC officials amidst tight security.
While Mr Makanju Ogundipe emerged the National Vice Chairman, South West, Pegba Otemolu from Ogun State emerged as Secretary and Lanre Orimoloye also from Ondo emerged as Treasurer.
Gabriel Gbesedo from Lagos emerged as the Financial Secretary, while the two positions zoned to Oyo State went to Rasak Adekola as the Auditor and Wale Adeleke as the Youth Leader.
Mrs Atinuke Oyewole from Osun State emerged as the Women Leader while the P.R.O from Ekiti State is Mr Dare Omotosho.
The Legal Adviser from Ondo State is Supo Ojabadeniyi and Femi Carena from Lagos is the new Publicity Secretary.
Meanwhile in a pre-emptive strike, the former chairman of the zonal caretaker committee of the PDP in the South West, Mr Ishola Filani, has described the congress as illegal, as he was the only candidate duly screened and cleared to contest in any zonal congress for the post of the National Vice Chairman, South West.
Addressing a press conference just before the congress, Filani stated that the conspiracy that produced the new candidate, Mr Makanju Ogundipe, who has been declared winner, would be resisted with every moral and legal process at his disposal.
