Power plant in NIgeriaSenate Committee on Power has asked the management of the Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) to stick to an agreement signed during the privatization of the power sector.

During a visit to KEDCO, Chairman of the Committee, Sen Olubenga Obadara, said KEDCO and other 10 DISCOS promised the Federal Government that it will ensure a stable electricity in areas controlled by them.

Leading a five man committee, Sen Obadara said their visit is to see the level of progress, constraints and to interact with officials of KEDCO on their mode of operations towards ensuring a stable electricity within their territory.

Sen Obadara, who commended the management of KEDCO, stressed that government is doing everything possible to fulfill the promises made to Nigerians on power generation.

Managing Director of the KEDCO, Mr. Jamilu Gwamna, said the challenges they are currently facing has to do with the allocation of Mega Watts from the national grid, which if improved, the supply of stable electricity in Kano area will be a thing of the past.

The meeting was ended with promises of enhanced productivity as the Senate Committee says it will soon forward its finding to President Goodluck Jonathan for appropriate actions.
