Vocational trainingThe Kogi State government has trained 1,097 youths in different vocations from across the 21 local government areas of the state under its Youth Advancement Programme For Kogi (Yad4Kogi), bringing the total number of participants to 7,731 from the inception of the scheme in 2012 to date.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Youths Advancement and Women Development, Dr Mrs Temitope Sinkaye made this known on Tuesday at the closing ceremony of the eight batch of the programme, after the successful completion of a two-week training, which held at the NYSC Camp, Asayan, In Kabba.

The programme aimed at equipping the youth for economic development and also rebuilding in them self esteem, dignity of labour, discipline as well as ethnic and cultural values.

In her opening speech, Sinkaye disclosed that there were new developments on the scheme, including skills acquisition programme where participants were taken through vocations such as shoe cobbling, beads and earring production, handbags and hat production among others.

The State Governor, Captain Idris Wada, in his message delivered by the Commissioner for Environment, Mr Tayo Aremu, restated his commitment to taking the youths of the state away from destructive activities and make them useful to themselves and the society.

Representative of participants under each vocation came out one after the other to showcase their skills on item displayed, and at the end, work tools were presented to the representative of the youths.

Prizes were also presented to some participants for there outstanding performance during the training.
