bomb blastA fresh bomb blast has occurred in Potiskum in Yobe State, this morning killing many students and leaving several others injured.

Students of Senior Science Secondary School Potiskum were on Monday morning hit by a bomb blast at the assembly hall of the school planted by suspected members of the dreaded sect the Boko Haram.

Witnesses said that the explosion rocked the school around 7:45 when the students were in for the first assembly of the week.

The source told Channels Television that a bomber disguised as a student of the school entered the assembly hall with the students and triggered the explosive devices killing several students

A student in the assembly hall told Channels Television that he counted 19 death bodies with several others sustaining severe injuries.

The State Commissioner of Police, Markus Danladi, who confirmed the bomb blast on Monday, said that 33 students were killed in the blast while 67 others sustained injuries but the figure has since risen to over 40.

Of the 67, according to him, 41 had been referred to the two teaching hospitals in Nguru and Azare in Yobe and Bauchi State respectively.

Monday’s explosion came barely one week after a suicide bomber attacked and killed scores of Islamic faithful on procession also in Potiskum.

Potiskum is the major commercial town in Yobe State as Damaturu the state capital remain the administrative town of the state.
