Sultan-of-SokotoThe Sultan of Sokoto and President of Jamatu Nasril Islam (JNI), Alhaji Abubakar Sa’ad III, has blamed Nigerian soldiers who abandon their duty posts during gun duels with Boko Haram terrorists for the recent wave of attacks by the insurgents in the North Eastern part of Nigeria.

He also called on the Federal Government to wake up to its fundamental and obligatory responsibility of protecting lives and properties of Nigerians, especially in the North East where the insurgency is most endemic.

The Sultan, while condemning the eight deadly attacks on seven Towns in Adamawa, Gombe, Yobe and Niger states in a space of two weeks and the destruction of public and private properties by the Boko Haram insurgents, expressed worry over the way soldiers take to their heels, abandoning bases, arms, ammunition and other military hardware at the sight of the insurgents, only to surface after the deadly attacks on the people.

The Sultan who addressed a news conference through the Secretary General of JNI, Dr Khalid Abubakar on Sunday, expressed fear that the activities of the insurgents which have continued unabated, particularly the taking over of towns and villages by the insurgents, portends a grave danger to the Nation and capable of threatening the nation’s sovereignty.

While he called on the nation’s security forces to urgently bring the attacks to an end, the Sultan further called on Government to ensure that the Security Forces are well equipped and motivated for effective operations and to also ensure that all culprits involved in the attacks are brought to Justice.
