RibaduA former Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission in Nigeria, Mr Nuhu Ribadu, has emerged as the governorship candidate of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Adamawa State.

Mr Ribadu defeated six other contestants, to win the ticket on Monday.

The State Governor, Bala Ngilari, was one of the other contestants that lost in an election held at the Old Parade ground, Abuja‎.

The party’s National Working Committee had moved the election to Abuja after Mr Ngilari was accused by a panel sent to the state to conduct the primary election for the State Assembly aspirants of holding them hostage.

In the election results announced by the chairman of the election panel, Rufai Hanga, Mr Ribadu got 688 votes while Governor Ngilari got 26 votes.

The son of a former chairman of the PDP, Bamanga Tukur, Awwal Tukur, got 24 votes, a former Executive Secretary of the Universal Basic Education, Commission, Ahmed Modibbo, had 30 votes while retired General Aliyu Kama got three votes.

Another candidate, Marcus Gundiri, who ran for governor on the platform of the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria in the 2011‎ election, got 33 votes.

In other results from other states, Mr Nyesom Wike, won the governorship ticket in Rivers State, Mr Teslim Folarin, won in Oyo State and the governorship ticket in Niger State was clinched by mr Umar Nasko.
