Road Construction, Fayose,

FayoseThe election petition tribunal sitting in Abuja on the Ekiti State governorship election has dismissed the petition filed by the All Progressives Congress, APC, against the election of Governor Ayodele Fayose.

The petition was dismissed on all grounds by the Chairman of the tribunal, Justice Mohammed Ibrahim-Siraju, on the grounds that the petitioner failed to substantiate the allegations with evidence.

Justice Siraju, in his judgement that lasted over four hours, held that the petitioners failed to prove all the allegations raised against the Governor.

The APC had, among others issues, demanded that the election of Fayose be nullified because it was heavily militarized and that its officers and members were arrested, molested and detained during the election.

The party also claimed that Fayose was not qualified to have stood for the election in the first instance, having been indicted by a probe panel and impeached during his first tenure of office for breach of code of conduct.

APC To Appeal

The All Progressives Congress, APC has said that it would file an appeal against the ruling of the tribunal because the court did not say that the issues raised were untrue.

Spokesman for the APC in Ekiti State, Mr Taiwo Olatunbosun, insisted that the party would get justice from the Appeal Court.

He explained that the APC raised issues of perjury against the PDP candidate, Ayo Fayose, who the party accused of storming the court to disturb proceedings before the trial judge, Justice Femi Ogunyemi.

The APC also called on the National Judicial Council to intervene in what it called a miscarriage of justice by the tribunal.
