The National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, Lai Mohammed, on Thursday noted that the controversy surrounding the certificate of the party’s presidential candidate, General Muhammadu Buhari, is now a ‘dead issue’ which is now ‘buried’.
Appearing on Sunrise Daily, Mr Mohammed, who stressed that the entire saga was a ‘needless distraction’, argued that “it’s a pity that Nigerians have been entertained and distracted over a non-issue”.
Buhari’s educational qualification has been a topic of heated debates over various platforms and several analysts and lawyers have given different interpretations to the educational requirement for any presidential candidate, stipulated by the Constitution.
However, Mr Mohammed, who accused most analysts of arguing wrongly, noted that “unfortunately, the biggest casualty in this whole matter is probably the Nigerian military”.
He disclosed that “the same day that Brigadier General Layele was giving this press conference, that same day, another arm of the military was sending and dispatching General Buhari his entire records.
According to the spokesman, the same arm of military admitted to them that it was not the practice of the organisation to keep copies of the academic certificates of their soldiers, in the 60’s.
