Osun-Bye Election

ElectionAPC leaders and some youths in Owerri North Local Government Area of Imo State have insisted that there will be no election in Imo State if INEC fails to deliver the Permanent Voter Cards to the remaining 10 out of the 12 wards in Owerri North Local Government Area.

Over 100 youths from Owerri North Local Government Area stormed the INEC office along Port Harcourt Road in Owerri, the state capital, protesting that elections will not hold in the state if INEC does not provide them with their PVCs.

An indigene of the Local Government, Ray Emeana, said that out of the 27 LGAs in the state, only Owerri North Local Government Area was affected as no single PVC had been distributed to 10 out of the 12 wards in the Local Government.

He also added that they had waited patiently for a long time for INEC to deliver their PVCs but all to no avail.

He alleged that this was a calculated attempt by INEC to disenfranchise the people.

Some APC leaders in the area also stated that INEC should get ready for a re-run or supplementary elections in the state because the people of Owerri North Local Government Area would not participate in the election since their PVCs were not made available to them.

An APC Leader in Owerri North Local Government Area and the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Jude Ejiogu, also lamented that INEC has failed the people of the area in the distribution of PVC.

He stressed that this has kept the people of the area questioning the integrity of INEC ahead of the elections. He also shared the view that if there is no PVC for the people, elections might not hold in the area.

Meanwhile, the INEC official who responded to the issues, promised the people of the area that the PVCs would be made available to them by weekend to enable them participate in the election.
