ObasanjoChieftains of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party have been reacting to the exit of the former president Chief Olusegun Obasanjo from the Peoples Democratic Party.

In an interview with state house correspondents, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the party, Chief Tony Anenih, said that Obasanjo as a Nigerian has the right to join or exit any political party and that to the PDP leaders, his exit is not a loss.

On his part, the National Secretary of the Board of Trustees of the party, Senator Walid Jibrin, said that President Obasanjo should have behaved in a more mature way rather than public display of his exit.

Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the party, Chief Tony Anenih, was seen in the Presidential Villa with other members of the BOT and the leadership of the party holding talks and strategizing on how the party would win the elections come March 28 and April 11.

Chairman of the PDP, Adamu Muazu, Senate President David Mark and the Deputy Senate President were among the party bigwigs who have been meeting in the villa with President Goodluck Jonathan.

Nigeria’s former president, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo on Monday announced his decision to dump the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), adding that he wishes to remain an elder statesman.

Following his announcement, Obasanjo asked that his PDP membership ID card be torn by the Chairman of his ward 11 Ita-Eko, Sumonu Oladunjoye.

Speaking to journalists in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, he further maintained that he isn’t prepared to join another political party, as he wishes to remain an elder statesman.
