Ado EkitiActivities in Ekiti State were destructed for several hours on Thursday as the students of the state owned university took to the streets of Ado Ekiti, the state capital, protesting over a 10,000 naira increment in late registration fee by the school authority.

The students took the demonstration from the school gate down to the major streets in Ado Ekiti with different placards and inscriptions, singing no to increase in late registrations.

The students accused the school authority of making policies that are not favourable to them. They called on the State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, to intervene as a matter of urgency.

However, as the protests went on, the police were reportedly left with no choice than to disperse the angry students with tear gas as it was the only option to control the situation.

The State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, while addressing the huge crowd, promised to revert the increment with immediate effect.

Violence had erupted in Ado Ekiti a week before this, following a disagreement between students of the Ekiti State University and bus drivers at Fajuyi Park in the state capital.

The disagreement was said to have degenerated to a shouting match, which attracted some policemen who began to shoot sporadically on arrival at the scene.
