Over one million Permanent Voter Cards (PVC) have been distributed in Plateau State, but some voters are still having a hard time over the collection of their cards.
Some registered voters in the north central Nigerian state are visiting several polling units in search of their cards, which the electoral body had insisted would only be used for the elections scheduled to hold on March 28 and April 11.
A visit to Jos North Local Government Area of the State by Channels Television indicated that voters were finding it difficult to collect their cards at the polling units where they registered. At the polling units they were directed to other units.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Plateau State, with a registered voters of over two million had received a total number of 1,671,038 PVCs out of which 1,427,227 have been distributed so far.
However, voters in some areas are yet to collect their PVCs due to some challenges ranging from missing names on the voters sheets at the polling units where they registered and mix up in the distribution method.
With these challenges of uncollected PVCs, community and religious leaders had been asked to sensitise their followers to check for their cards at various designated centres for collection.
One of the voters in search of her PVC expressed concerns over the difficulties, but remained undeterred in collecting her card in order to exercise her rights at the polls.
With the shifting of the general elections and postponement for the collection of PVCs to March 8, citizens now have ample opportunity to collect their cards while the electoral body should improve on the distribution channels.
