leo ogorThe Deputy House Leader,  Leo Ogor has insisted that the use of the military is to secure citizens of the state during the elections. 

He explained that the rowdiness that took place in the House of Representatives was over the use of military during the general elections.

He said that soldiers are not used for elections but according to the electoral act that was passed , “if INEC needs soldiers they can ask for it and the president should release soldiers for them”.

Speaking as a guest on Sunrise Daily, Mr. Ogor referred to the election that was held in Edo state and how the governor commended the military for helping in conducting free and fair elections.

He further explained the power of the president according to Section 218 of the constitution, which stipulates that powers of the president as the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federation shall include “Power to determine the operational use of the Armed Forces of the Federation.

He added that under the Provision of Section 8 of the Armed Forces Act, the operational use of the Armed Forces is defined.

He further stated that the court’s judgment bothers on using the Army for election but insisted that the Army will be used to secure citizens during the elections.
