INEC-Elections-JegaA pro-democracy group, the Osun Progressives Left (OSL) is asking the Presidency in Nigeria to jettison plans to further shift the new dates of the elections and the purported plan to remove the chairman of the the electoral body.

At a press conference in Osogbo, the Osun State capital in the south-west, the spokesperson for the group, Wale Adebisi, urged the Federal Government to honour the ‎May 29 handing over date, saying the date should stand as Democracy Day.

Mr Adebisi said that sacking the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Professor Attahiru Jega, would weaken the confidence of Nigerians in the electoral process.

The group‎ also warned that any attempt to embark on any form of military Interim arrangement could undermine the country’s democratic system, just as he condemned the involvement of military during the elections.

Fielding questions from reporters, a co-convener of the forum, comrade Wale Adebisi, further stressed that tampering with the election process and timetable would simply indicate that “the PDP-led government is taken the country democratically aback”.

The group then urged every eligible Nigerian voter to be weary of desperate politicians who may want to induce them with money or any other material in exchange for their vote.

Hold on to your Permanent Voter Cards, as it remains your power to determine the future of the country, the group told voters.
