ita-giwaThe political leader of the Bakassi people of Cross-River State, Senator Florence Ita-Giwa, has met with market women in Calabar, the state capital ahead of Saturday’s governorship elections.

The purpose of the meeting was to redirect their minds on the need to turn out massively on Saturday, April 11 to vote for the candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Addressing the rural women, who are majorly farmers and market women, in Calabar, the Senator maintained that, although the PDP lost out at the presidential elections, this should not deter them from participating in the second round of the elections considering its importance to the grassroots.

According to Senator Ita-Giwa, a proper democracy requires a healthy opposition.

The Senator called on members of the PDP to take a cue from how well the All Progressives Congress (APC) played their role as the opposition party in the past years and replicate same for the period of years APC would rule.

As a long standing member of the PDP in the state, Senator Ita-Giwa used the occasion to sue for peace among aggrieved members who had defected from the PDP to other parties in the state to come together and speak with one voice come Saturday.
