In Kaduna State, North-West Nigeria, accreditation commenced at some polling units in several parts of the state as early as 7:45am while in other areas, voters are yet to turn up for accreditation.

According to reports, the whole state is calm as there are heavy security presence in all the polling units visited by Channels TV correspondents.

Electorates have described the conduct of the exercise so far as very orderly and peaceful, and hoped that such would be maintained during and after the voting exercise.

Channels TV correspondent who went round some of the polling units in the state capital, reported that there were low turnout of voters especially in areas dominated by non indigenes, compared to the large turnout during the March 28 presidential election.

This could be attributed to the indifference shown by some residents as far as the governorship election is concerned.

Yobe Accreditation Started In Good Time

Similarly in Damaturu, Yobe State capital north eastern part of the country, accreditation started in good time as electoral officials and materials arrived various polling stations at the appropriate time.

Security officials are also on ground to ensure law and order as the exercise continues.

No Problem In Adamawa

Channels TV Correspondent covering Adamawa State, Lanre Lasisi, also reported that the accreditation of voters in Adamawa State “started without any problems whatsoever”.

He said that the card readers have also been working better than they did during the presidential elections and the response of the electoral officers were swift in cases where the card reader failed to read some people’s fingerprints.

Joining Channels Television’s ‘Nigeria 2015’ studio via the telephone, he added that voter turnout appears to be more than what was recorded during the presidential elections.
