The All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) in Abia State, south-east Nigeria has demanded a rerun in the three Local Government Areas (LGA) that were earlier canceled over violence and malpractices, in the Saturday governorship election held in the state.

In a session with media in Umuahia the state capital, the National Chairman of the party, Chief Victor Umeh, also demanded the replacement of the Resident Electoral Commissioner and the deployment of a new staff of the Independent National Election Commission (INEC) to conduct elections in the affected areas.

He also accused the State Governor, Theodore Orji and the national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of influencing INEC officials to manipulate the process in favour of the PDP.

The statement was made in the wake of the outcome of the April 11 governorship election in the state.

However, INEC had on Monday declared the governorship election inconclusive on the premise that the margin of win was not in excess of the total number of registered voters in areas where elections did not hold.
