Saraki on corruption in NigeriaThe Senator representing Kwara central at the National Assembly and a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr Bukola Saraki, has emphasised that the public declaration of assets would not reduce corruption.

Senator Saraki in an interactive session with reporters on Saturday in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, noted that the emergence of APC at the centre was a clear indication of sincere desire by Nigerians to ensure the right things are done.

He, however, pointed out that corruption could be reduced through personal commitment and good example of the leadership in the country.

His comments are coming days after the President-elect, General Muhammadu Buhari, said those seeking political appointments in his administration would be forced to declare their assets before taking office and before leaving.

General Buhari had in his campaign said that corruption was a key issue he would tackled, saying “if we do not kill corruption, corruption will ill Nigeria”.

He had reiterated his commitment to reducing the level of corruption in Nigeria to enable the different sectors of the economy thrive.
