Appeal Court Nullifies Impeachment Of Ali Olanusi

OndoThe Ondo State House of Assembly has served a notice of impeachment on the state’s Deputy Governor, Ali Olanusi, over allegations of gross misconduct.

The impeachment notice signed by 20 of the 26 lawmakers was announced by the Speaker, Jumoke Akindele, after the clerk read the seven allegations levelled against Olanusi.

The Deputy Governor had defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) two days before the presidential election.

The allegations levelled against him include abuse of office for personal enrichment, absenteeism, action capable of causing breach of peace among cabinet members in the state, among others.

Majority Leader of the House, Ifedayo Akinsoyinu, moved the motion that the notice be served on the Deputy Governor and it was seconded by Adeyinka Banso.

The Speaker then ruled that the Deputy Governor be served the notice personally, through his office, pasted on his residence and through a national daily which got a unanimous approval from all the lawmakers present.

The Chairman, House Committee on Information, Kunle Olujuigbe, promised that the Assembly would follow due process.

The news of the March 26 defection of Ali Olanusi came as a surprise to the Ondo State Government, but the Deputy Governor cited the need to find justice, fairness, equity and democratic liberty as the reason behind his decision.

Olanusi, an indigene of Supare in Akoko South West local government area of the State, became the Deputy Governor of the State in 2009 under the platform of Labour Party before he defected alongside the State Governor, Olusegun Mimiko, to the PDP in October, 2014.
