oshiomhole on Labour unionThe President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Ayuba Wabba, has been asked to re-position the union and seek the review of Nigeria’s Industrial Policy towards massive job creation.

The task was given to the union leader by the Governor of Edo State, Mr Adams Oshionmhole, at a meeting held at the Labour House.

Mr Oshionmhole told top executives of the union that majority of Nigerians were presently united by poverty, unemployment and low living standards, saying it is imperative to ensure that the welfare of the lot is consistently emphasised.

The Comrade Governor and a former President of the NLC said “the country’s economy has been run down over the past six years with a bad debt status”, making it imperative to evolve policies that are ‘pro-poor people’.

It is his first visit since the current president of the union came into office.

The controversial elections that produced the NLC boss was top on Governor Oshionmhle’s agenda, as he congratulated the President for his election which he said followed due process and urged him to face the tasks ahead and quit worrying over those he called disgruntled parties.

He, however, told the union leader to ensure that the prestige of the NLC would be restored.

Another issue that came up at the meeting was the failed NLC-Kriston Lally Housing Project over which the president assured the Governor that about 2.6 billion Naira subscribers’ money was safe in a Nigerian bank, saying three levels of action are being put in place to ensure every subscriber gets his money back.
