The National Examination Council (NECO) has said that Lagos State recorded the highest number of candidates sitting for the 2015 National Common Entrance Examination (NCEE) with 25,437 pupils, while Borno State had the least with 55 candidates.
The low number of candidates in Borno may be connected with insecurity in the state.
Some 200 girls writing their final year examinations in a Government Girls Secondary School in Chibok were abducted by members of the Boko Haram sect on April 14, 2014.
The girls are still missing.
But the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Mr MacJohn Nwaobiala, said adequate arrangements were made for candidates in states like Borno, Adamawa and Yobe where there are security challenges.
Mr Nwaobiala added that candidates in states where supplementary elections took place were moved to other centers that are not affected by the poll.
The examination took place in 420 centers across Nigeria and the results are expected to be released on Wednesday April 29, 2015.
Mr Nwaobiala stated that about 24,072 candidates would be offered admission into the Unity Schools based on their present carrying capacity.
Over 86,000 students sat for this year’s NCEE examination and they stand a chance of gaining admission into the 104 Federal Government Unity Colleges across the federation.
