Kashamu

KashamuIt appears the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency is still laying siege to the residence of Ogun State Senator-Elect Mr Buruji Kashamu in an effort to extradite him to the United States to face drug charges.

Mr Kashamu’s lawyer, in a phone-in interview on our breakfast show, Sunrise Daily said that the agency’s operatives were still at Mr Kashamu’s residence in defiance of a court order.

According to him “there are still close to 12 to 15 armed men” in Mr Kashamu’s residence and he has been locked up in his bathroom since Saturday, a situation that meant he has had to speak with his client through the door.

However, NDLEA’s spokesperson, Mitchell Ofoyeju, denied flouting any court orders concerning Mr Kashamu.

He stated that the NDLEA has a valid warrant of arrest for Mr Kashamu as he has been indicted by a grand jury. He told Sunrise Daily that the agency has many windows of opportunity through which to pursue its case.

No Court Order

Meanwhile the Inspector-General of Police, Mr Solomon Arase, insists that the Police were not served any court orders to compel the NDLEA to vacate Mr Kashamu’s residence.

The Police Inspector-General, who was also a guest on Sunrise Daily, said that if his office had received such an order from any competent court, he would have duly complied.

The Inspector-General of Police, Solomon Arase, also called on Nigerians to support and appreciate the Police in order to achieve growth and development in the sector.

He said over the years there has been poor public perception about the force, as members of the public see the Police as people who do not respect their rights or violate their rights.

Mr. Arase stated that the reforms going on in the force is to help Nigerians have a better relationship with the Police and make them (Police) accountable for whatever they do.
