NLC, Strike, fuel price

nlcPresident of the National Industrial Court (NIC), Justice Babatunde Adejumo, has urged the two factions of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) to resolve the leadership crisis rocking the union since the controversial 11th Delegates Conferences of the union held on March 12, 2015 and another Special Delegates Conference held on March 19, 2015 in Lagos.

The Ayuba Wabba led faction of the union had approached the court, praying it to, among other demands, declare the Special Delegates Conference of the Joe Ajaero led faction held in Lagos illegal, null and void.

The President of Textile Workers Union, Oladele Hunsu, said in a statement that when the case came up for mention on Wednesday June 24, Justice Adejumo urged the two factions to sustain mutual reconciliation instead of litigations that would further divide them.

According to the Industrial Court President, ordinary members of unions and the nation at large have high expectations of the Labour movement given its historic role in the nation’s history.

Emphasizing the importance of Labour in the development of the nation, Justice Adejumo stated that “workers constitute the engine room of the economy” adding that no matter the differences, a united NLC is better off than a divided one.

Justice Adejumo urged the counsels to both parties to help in the reconciliation process.

Meanwhile, the case has been adjourned until October 18, 2015, to enable the factions use the period of adjournment to find amicable and win-win solutions to the crisis.
