isThe Syrian Observatory for Human Rights have reported the killing of several people in a fierce battle in the center of the town on Syrian-Turkish border.

Islamic State (IS) fighters re-entered the Syrian town of Kobane, months after being driven out in a long battle with Kurdish troops.

Kurdish forces in the early part of the year drove IS forces from Kobane, after a long campaign backed by US-led air strikes.

IS has suffered a string of defeats to Kurdish forces since it was forced to withdraw from Kobane in January, after a four-month battle.

According to reports, early this week, a Kurdish Protection Units, YPG forces, said they had captured a key town, Ain Issa, which is 50km (30 miles) from the IS headquarters at Raqqa.

Kobane is a city in Syria, also known as Ayn al-Arab in Arabic, and the villages surrounding it were home to about 400,000 people, most of whom were Kurds.
