Minimah on Boko haramThe Chief of Army Staff in Nigeria, Lt. General Kenneth Minimah, says the Boko Haram terrorists in the north-east have been seriously degraded by troops of the Nigerian military.

Minimah’s statement is coming in spite of the latest attacks by the Boko Haram insurgents in Borno State that have claimed several lives.

At the passing out ceremony of 152 officers of the Direct Short Service Course 22 held at the Nigerian Army School of Infantry Corps, Jaji in Kaduna State on Saturday, the Army Chief tasked the officers on commitment to safeguarding the nation and its citizens.

Part of the ceremony was a colourful parade to wind up the 24 weeks of intensive training and conversion of the erstwhile civilian professionals to military officers.

‎The commissioning of the men and women into the officers cadre of the Nigerian Army is coming at a time the nation is facing a new wave of security challenge orchestrated by the Boko Haram insurgents in the north-east.

Their commissioning was part of the Federal Government’s effort aimed at curbing terrorism in the oil-rich nation through injection of fresh hands into the force.

For six months, the officers were subjected to rigorous physical fitness training to develop their endurance level. They also received lectures on counter terrorism operations.

Addressing the newly commissioned officers, Lt. General Minimah told them that they would be joining the rank of officers and men who have demonstrated gallantry and valour in defence of their fatherland ‎against the terrorists.

He urged them to display a high level of competence and leadership for the support service of the Nigerian Army.

While reminding the officers that the Nigerian Army operates on a philosophy of zero tolerance for misconduct and cowardice, Lt. General Minimah told them that the authorities would demand nothing short of the very best from them.

The Nigerian Army School of Infantry has been a major facilitator and force multiplier in the training of gallant officers and soldiers and also in the fight against terrorism, through effective training of Army personnel and officers of other sister agencies.
