Security check points in JosThe Plateau State Governor, Simon Lalong, has directed the immediate mounting of snap check points at appropriate areas after a twin-bomb blast left at least 40 dead.

Governor Lalong told reporters at a hospital in Jos that the check points would address peculiar security situations in the state.

He also appealed to all medical personnel and voluntary aid groups to respond to the situation and provide needed first aid assistance to the victims.

The Governor gave the directives in respond to the twin bomb blasts that occurred in the state capital, as a means of fortifying the security situation in the state capital.

After experiencing a period of peace for a while in Jos, north central region of Nigeria, the peaceful atmosphere was broken on Sunday night with a twin-bomb-explosion at two different areas of the state capital which claimed several lives and left scores injured.

Giving an account of the ordeal, the Director of the State’s First Aid Group, Abdullahi Daudu, said the first explosion occurred at a restaurant along Bauchi road where people gathered to break their fast in the ongoing Ramadan which included travellers coming from the north-east and passers-by.

“Shortly after the first explosion, the second occurred at the Zala Mosque in Yan Taya area of Dilimi near the Terminus Market where people were attending the Tafsir preaching after the break of fast,” he said.

Uneasy Calm

Plateau State Governor in company of his Deputy and other government officials were at the Plateau State Specialist Hospital to see how the injured were responding to treatment, as he announced the return of check points at some strategic areas.

National Emergency Management Agency, North Central Coordinator, Abdulsalam Mohammed, after assessing the situation gave the figures of the dead as well as the injured receiving treatments at various hospitals.

He assured residents that the situation had been put under control and that normalcy had returned to the areas.

Though, the situation is calm, as security has been reinforced in and around the capital city, there is still an uneasy calm with residents expecting security agents to redouble their efforts in providing adequate security of lives and property.
