Kaduna Government To Build Rehabilitation Home for Beggars, OtherThe Kaduna State government has promised to build a rehabilitation home for beggars and physically challenged persons in the state.

Beggars and physically challenged persons in Kaduna State, North-west Nigeria, had earlier took to the streets to protest the ban on street begging and hawking by the State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai.

The ban came shortly after a female suicide bomber sneaked into the venue of a Workers Screening Exercise at Sabon Gari Local Government Area in Kaduna State and detonated an Improvised Explosive Device that killed 22 people and injured 32 others.

The beggars described the prohibition as an abuse on their fundamental rights as citizens of the state threatened to drag the state government to court if it fails to reverse the decision.

As part of measures to douse the protest generated by the ban, Governor El-Rufai held a reconciliation meeting with them.

Sequel to the development, the Governor paid a visit to their Kano Road Make Shift Home, revealing that the State government had concluded plans to rehabilitate and train them on various skills.

He also revealed that the State government took the decision to ban street begging for the peace and security of the state

With Governor El-Rufai’s visit and promise to transform their lives, the Leader of People with Disability, Rilwanu Abdullahi, asserted that the beggars have agreed to sheath their swords and leave the streets if only the State government would fulfill its promise.
