wadaThe Governor of Kogi State, Idris Wada, has distributed money, clothing and food items to people living with disability in the state as part of his administration’s strategy to carter for the less privileged.

The Governor, who performed the ceremony in Lokoja the state capital, said that his government would not stop to improve the lives of the less privileged persons in the state in areas of health, material needs and employment.

While declaring the distribution open, Capt. Wada thanked them and urged them to remain law abiding citizens and never allow the privileged ones use them to create problems in the state.

He assured them of government’s commitment to catering for the less privileged, adding that the gesture would be a continuous one.

The Chairman of the disabled, who spoke in Hausa language, appealed to the Governor to assist them with Police security in their zone, adding that they have been experiencing robberies on daily basis and that the gifts being presented to them might be stolen away that night.

But just while the distribution was still on, some youths invaded the venue and snatched the bags of money and clothing from those distributing them while the Police were there. The venue became rowdy with bulling and fighting.

The drama did not go down well with the physically changed. For them it was a blessing with disappointments.

The Governor’s good intention was acknowledged but the goodwill was not carried through as they returned home disappointed.

They advised him to find a better approach to such distribution to avoid a re-occurrence of the invasion.
