health careThe Nigerian Government has been challenged to evolve and expand an enduring policy framework on health care delivery as an impetus to the sustenance of other sectors of the nation’s economy, to reduce medical tourism and improve the health of the people.

The advice was contained in messages at the Annual General Meeting of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Ogun State chapter, held in Abeokuta, the state capital.

Medical practitioners asked government to improve on the National Health Insurance Scheme to ensure its spread across the nooks and crannies of the country.

They demanded more funding, modern equipment and necessary political will to drive the sector.

Representing the State Governor, the Deputy Governor, Mrs Yetunde Onanuga, restated the commitment of the State Government towards improving the sector.

Mrs Onanuga said that the state had developed comprehensive strategies which include allocation of more funds, free community based health and maternity programmes, establishment of the emergency and ambulance service, all aimed at effectively developing the health sector.
