sultanThe Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar, wants President Muhammadu Buhari to prosecute anyone that had looted Nigeria’s funds.

The Sultan, who spoke on Monday in Abuja at a Summit organised by the Nigeria Police Force, advised that anyone found culpable of corruption should not only forfeit their asset, but should also go to jail.

He said:”Mr President, we are 100 per cent in support of your fight against corruption in this country and it is our belief that all those found guilty should not have their entire assets seized and forfeited to government, but also face jail sentences”.

He also called for the resuscitation of and passage of the bill on Police Trust Fund.

Alhaji Abubakar further stressed that it was illegal to collect a gift from the common people, as such action leads to all types of calamities.

He said: “Where a gift finds its way to a man of authority, justice and goodness will find its way out of him. What he does is to purchase for himself a place in hell”.

The Sultan described President Buhari as a man with integrity, saying: “We have a pure spring as our President”.

President Buhari has, at different occasions, reiterated his commitment to fighting corruption and recovering funds looted by government officials in the last administration.

On Sunday, the APC released a list with figures it alleged were funds looted from Nigeria’s treasury by past administration.
