FRSC Officials To Start Bearing Arms

frscThe Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Nigeria says road traffic crashes, as at the middle of 2015, have reduced by 12 per cent compared to the same period in 2014.

Death rate, according to the agency also reduced by 15 per cent.

The FRSC Corps Marshal, Mr Boboye Oyeyemi, gave the figures on Monday at a press conference in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital city.

The FRSC boss said the commission was, however, determined to meet its 2015 corporate strategic goals of reducing accidents in Nigeria by 20 per cent and deaths from crashes by 30 per cent.

To address the accidents caused by tanker drivers, Mr Oyeyemi said the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation and tank farms of major marketers were insisting on compliance with minimum safety standards by trucks that lift petroleum products.

He added that the decision would address the problem of crashes arising from fatigue, due to unbroken driving hours.
