Austria-Lorry-DeathsAbout 70 dead bodies assumed to be migrants, have been found in an abandoned lorry near the Hungarian border.

After the bodies were discovered, Hungarian Police arrested four people they suspect of being connected to the incident.

The victims included 59 men, eight women and four children who are thought to have been dead for about two days.

Probably Suffocated

Security officials discovered the vehicle on a motor way towards Vienna on Thursday.

According to Austrian officials, the victims were probably already dead when the vehicle crossed into Austria.

The vehicle has been taken to a customs building in Nickelsdorf, for a forensic team to examine the bodies.

According to report, Burgenland province Police Chief, Hans Peter Doskozil, said that during preliminary investigations, “there was no ventilation possible through the sides of the lorry”. The victims probably suffocated, he believes.

Mr Doskozil said one of the Bulgarians arrested is assumed to be the vehicle’s owner, while it is “highly likely” the other two are “the ones who drove the vehicle”.

He said there was “an indication we are talking about a Bulgarian-Hungarian human trafficking operation”.

“If you look at the organisation of people traffickers, these are the lowest two levels of a criminal organisation,” he added.
