OnosodeThe Acting National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Prince Uche Secondus, on behalf of the National Executive Committee (NEC) and the PDP family nationwide mourns the death of “one of Nigeria’s foremost technocrats”, Mr. Gamaliel Onosode.

A statement by the National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Mr Olisa Metuh,  said it “is indeed deeply saddened by the loss of this great Nigerian, a highly respected statesman and organised corporate administrator who made immense contributions towards the economic and political development of our dear nation.

“Our hearts and thoughts go out to the Onosode family as we pray God to give them the fortitude to bear this great loss”, the statement added.

Onosode was a Nigerian technocrat, administrator and a former presidential candidate of the All Nigeria People’s Party of Nigeria.

He was boardroom player in Nigeria’s corporate environment, a former Presidential Adviser to President Shagari and a former President of the Nigerian Institute of Management.

Mr. Onosode reportedly died on Tuesday morning at Gold Cross Hospital, Ikoyi, Lagos after a protracted illness.

According to his official website, he studied at the Government College, Ughelli and the University of Ibadan. He emerged in the 1970s as one of Nigeria’s leading educated chief executives, when he was at the helm of NAL Merchant Bank of Nigeria.

Throughout his career, Dr. G. O. Onosode has chaired several private and public sector businesses and initiatives. He was the Chairman of Dunlop Nigeria Plc (1984-2007), a former Chairman of Cadbury Nigeria Plc (1977-93), the Presidential Commission on Parastatals (1981), Nigeria LNG Working Committee and Nigeria LNG Limited (1985-90) and the Niger Delta Environmental Survey (since 1995).
