LagosThe Lagos State Deputy Governor, Mrs Oluranti Adebule, took the ceremonial salute to mark the nation’s 55th Independence Anniversary at the Police College, Ikeja.

The Deputy Governor took salute as the Police, other law enforcement agencies, voluntary organizations and school children marched past.

Other top government functionaries and dignitaries also watched in admiration.

Mrs Adebule, who represented Governor Akinwunmi Ambode, appealed to Lagosians to support the state government in its effort to consolidate on the gains of development made by previous administrations.

She challenged Lagosians to use the opportunity to key into the aspirations of the state government.

“The time has come for us to take centre stage in global reckoning. Lagos State has moved from being (just) a regional hub for social-economy and political relevance. My message therefore to all Lagosians as we celebrate today is to rededicate ourselves to the common goal of taking our state to the higher level,” she said.

Some of the dignitaries at the event also shared positive thoughts about Nigeria at 55, including the first civilian governor of Lagos State, Alhaji Lateef Jakande, who said to Channels Television, “I want us to take the opportunity of this anniversary to make resolutions to change for the better.”

The general view of citizens at the Lagos celebration was that in unity lies the strength of Nigeria and that is the way to sustain it as a nation.
