Usman GwaryAssistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Zone nine, Umuahia, Usman Gwary, says crime rate has reduced drastically in Anambra State.

Mr Gwary made the statement on Wednesday, during his courtesy visit to Anambra State Governor, Willie Obiano.

The AIG said that the crime rate was  reduced as a result of the strategic application of some innovative security measures in the state, especially in the area of community policing.

The tour, according to him, was in response to the directive of the Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase, to visit Police formations in states under his jurisdiction and acquaint them with the current security policies of the present police administration.

Addressing the police officers, the AIG, commended the Command for a good result obtained in a secret investigation conducted by a special team in which the South-east police formations were rated high.

On the latest security strategies, Mr Gwary mentioned Visibility Policy, Robust and Enhanced Patrol, Periodic raids in black spots and flash points of criminal activities and intelligence.

He said Anambra State has all the structure in place which has resulted to a peaceful atmosphere in the state.

Governor Obiano, assured the police that he would do more for the state security in the area of training officers, provision of vehicles and communication gadgets.

He urged them not to relent but work assiduously for the safety and security of the state.

Meanwhile, Thirty two year old, Abdul Makong, whose arrest was made possible through the effort of a traditional ruler was paraded.

Also a graduate of Political science who claimed to be an Assistant Superintendent of Police tried to defraud the Traditional Ruler of Isiagu community with the claims that he would assist the community members get recruited in the ongoing police recruitment exercise before he was arrested.
