Osun College Meger Plan: Alumni Joins To Appeal ProcessThe alumni association of the Osun State College of Education, Ila Orangun has joined others to appeal to the State Government to re-consider the proposed merger plans of the institution with the Ilesa College of Education.

The group made the appeal in Oshogbo, the state capital in Nigeria’s south-western region, following the State government’s assertion that the merger‎ report was mere rumour.

The National President of the association, Ayobami Fakeye, observed that the stakeholders are not convinced that the government would not go ahead with the plans.

According to him, transfer of some courses and closure of the college should be carried out following due process through the Osun State House of Assembly and not by a unilateral decision not backed by law.

Students of the college and the host community had earlier staged a protest on alleged merger of the institution.

The students accused the Osun State government of planning to merge the Ila Orangun College with Osun State College of Education, Ilesa thereby, reducing the staff strength.

The Osun State Government refuted the allegation, maintaining that there was no such plan to merge any of the State-owned‎ tertiary institutions.
