Group Express Concerns Over Kogi Governorship ElectionA coalition of civil society organisations on electoral matters have expressed concerns over the governorship election coming up in Kogi State.

The group said that there is a likelihood of induced violence ahead of the elections to warrant the deployment of soldiers and men of the Department of State Services (DSS).

Addressing a news conference in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital, the Executive Director of the coalition, Mr Mike Femi, emphasized the need for President Muhammadu Buhari to guard against violence in Kogi and Bayelsa states, so as to resist the temptation to deploy soldiers for election duties.

The group also appealed to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to maintain the highest level of neutrality in the conduct of the governorship elections.

They urged foreign observer missions to keep an eagle-eye on the Kogi State governorship election which would be the first under President Buhari.
