TerrorismThe Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed, has urged the media to scale up campaigns to boost national unity to help end terrorism.

The Minister said that the media must not remain on the fence when the issue of national unity is involved, underscoring the need to carry out duties in a manner that will unite rather than divide the people.

He said that the war against terrorism is not a war for the military alone but for all Nigerians for the survival of the nation.

“The issue with Nigeria is that we have taken our unity too much for granted. Our unity is very fragile but in the era of prosperity, we pretend and forget that this unity must be worked upon every time,” he said.

Emphasizing the need to understand others’ differences, he said that the government must embark on “a sustainable campaign” on the unity of the country.

“It is not a campaign that should stop simply because we have overcome Boko Haram or we have overcome MASSOB, its a campaign that must continue as long as Nigeria remains one.”

Mohammed equally assured representatives from the Nigerian Union of Journalists, Independent Broadcasters Association of Nigeria among others that under his watch, the Ministry of Information and Culture would assist the media get timely and accurate information from the government to drive greater transparency in the system.
