The House of Representatives has directed its Committees on Justice and Judiciary to examine the Supreme Court’s verdict on local governments.
Mandating the committee to carry out the assessment on Tuesday during plenary, the lawmakers said it would enable the House determine if revenue should be released to councils with non-democratically elected council administrations.
This resolution followed consideration of a motion on the need to sustain and promote democratic local government administration and good governance sponsored by Honourable Afe Olowookere.
The House further urged state governments without democratically elected local government councils to conduct elections without delay.
