AregbesolaThe Nigeria Medical Association (NMA) says its members will not be intimidated in any form to resume unless government rescinds its decision to sack the striking doctors.

‎This was its reaction to the state government’s radio and newspaper advertorials calling for interested doctors to apply for various positions in the state hospitals.

The State Chairman of NMA, Dr Suraj Ogunyemi, spoke to newsmen in Osogbo, the Osun State capital, as the crisis between medical doctors and the Osun State Government continues to deepen.

He ‎said that this action by the state government is an indirect enforcement of the proposed retrenchment of ‎the striking doctors in the state as earlier threatened by Governor Rauf Aregbesola.

Dr. Ogunyemi maintained that the doctors are only seeking for their rights, and any member who dares to apply for any position as advertised would be sanctioned accordingly.

‎‎When contacted, the Head of Service, Olayinka Owoeye said he “can only be seen and not heard at this stage”.

In the meantime, activities remain paralysed within the LAUTECH Teaching Hospital, Osogbo premises as only nurses were seen on duty and all wards were empty.

Governor Rauf Aregbesola had few days earlier directed that the doctors should call off their three months strike or face the consequence of the civil service rule.
