ogun state governor The Ogun State Governor, Ibikunle Amosun, has expressed the readiness of the state to develop the abandoned multi-million Naira Oyan River Dam designed for irrigation, fresh water and electricity generation to improve agricultural development.

The expression of interest was communicated by the State Governor while in a meeting on Friday with the Minister of Water Resources, Mr Sulaiman Adamu, at the Governor’s office in Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun State.

Mr Adamu was on a spot assessment of technical audit of some Federal Government water projects in Ogun State.

The Minister expressed disappointment over quality of job done, saying that despite huge amount of money spent on some of the projects, little or nothing had been achieved.

He informed the Governor that a committee had been set up by the Federal Government to re-position the Water Basin Authorities across Nigeria, with a view to making them conform to government policy thrust on agricultural sector.

Governor Amosun in response said that the state is ready to partner with the Federal Government on the Oyan Dam for irrigation, aquaculture and power generation.

The strategic visit to Federal Government water projects in the state was rounded off with a courtesy call on the Alake and paramount ruler of Egbaland, HRH Aremu Gbadebo.
