Police and NavyThe Nigerian Navy and the Police Force are collaborating to provide adequate security to the nation’s maritime domain, with strategic asset and vast resources.

To strengthen surveillance and capacity to protect the waterways in Lagos State, the Navy, on Saturday, drilled police officials on basic marine operations.

Combating threats such as piracy, pipeline vandalism, unregulated fishing, terrorism and other marine related crimes were examined at the training.

The Flag Officer Commanding the Naval Training Command, Rear Admiral Adeniyi Osinowo, said that the training would help the police.

“The event we are witnessing today (Saturday), is the demonstration of the collaboration between the leadership of the Nigerian Navy and the Nigerian Police Force to improve the proficiency of our personnel in maritime operations and in simplified term, the concept of the basic.

“Maritime operation course is designed for marine and riverine operations for personnel of the Nigerian Police Force,” he said.

Responding, Deputy Commissioner of Police, who represented the AIG Marine Police, Ahmed Iliyasu, thanked the Nigerian Navy for the attempt to incorporate the police in the fight against maritime crime.

“I thank the Naval Command for arranging the platform for our officers and men.

“We are always ready at any beck and call to come forward and collaborate with the navy and carry out our security duties for the safety and security of our people and the provision of the Constitution of this country (Nigeria) which has given us the powers and rights to perform as security officers,” he said.

As the nation strides towards a better future, protection of commonwealth is of utmost importance, this no doubt makes the programme desirable.
