The ‘Safer Internet Day 2016’ is taking place today, February 9, with the theme “Play Your Part for a Better Internet”.
To celebrate “Safer Internet Day”, Google is encouraging everyone, who access the web, to take serious steps to ensure their identities and payment information are safeguarded.
Google promised to give free two GB storage on Google drive to everyone who takes steps to secure their information.
The first step, is to check recovery information, like a phone number and backup email.
“In case you forgot your own password or worse someone tried changing it without your knowing, this comes handy,” Google says.
The second step, is for the user to list all devices – smartphones, tablets and chrome browser – connected to the Google account.
After checking up those devices, the user can proceed to disable access for less secure apps which is optional. And finally, the user is given a list of apps, mostly from Android that have access to the user’s Google account.
It pays to be more vigilant in securing your account, considering the rampant cases of online account being hacked these days.
