Oil companiesMinister of Labor and Employment, says unemployment is a scourge the Federal government will fight to a standstill by creating mass employment opportunities for unskilled and unemployed Nigerians.

Senator Chris Ngige said this can be done through the vocational skills acquisition, agricultural and entrepreneurial skills as well as transient employment opportunities in the public works sector.

Senator Ngige announced this during the resettlement of 250 graduates of Vocational Skills Development Programme in Anambra State under the National Directorate of Employment (NDE).

The programme, which has taken off simultaneously in seventeen states of the federation, has 30 fresh beneficiaries in Anambra State empowered, while 220 graduates of the programme, who had undergone the training but have not been resettled also received enhancement to expand their businesses.

The Acting Director-General of the National Directorate of Employment said the resettlement initiative is a fresh programme called the Artisans Resettlement and Mentoring Scheme (ARMS).

The Minister said the Federal Government would ensure aggressive tackling of unemployment to change the face of the entire nation for good.

He said the second phase of the programme will start in June 2016 and over 2800 businesses will be generated across the country through the NDE Resettlement Scheme.

The state governor, represented by the deputy, commended the Federal Government initiative and added that the state government had also cued into the programme through setting up vocational training programmes for the youths of the state.

The NDE has 74 functional skills acquisition centres across the country providing skills ranging from technical, domestic, agricultural and ICT based skills.
